As the technology is advancing, many new appliances are being introduced in the market to facilitate the homeowners. Kitchen Sink Disposal is one such appliance. They make cleaning up after dinner and rinsing dishes off a breeze. But, if some very basic instructions are not followed, can clog them. Situation may arise when you re compelled to replace your sink disposal.

At times, when you need to remove the appliance and wants to fit the other one, you don’t have to call the expert. Rather, the homeowners can do this very conveniently by themselves. This article familiarizes you with some important steps that can help an individual to carry out the process themselves.

Since, it is hazardous to work with the live electricity, firstly shut off the power to the sink disposal. Generally, there are two types of disposals are available in the market. First is the plug- in cord type which you just need to unplug from the electrical outlet. Another one is directly connected to the power supply. For that simply trip the circuit breaker.

Garbage disposal is connected to the home wiring with some screws, unfasten them. Also, the conduit holding the wire should be taken out. All the wires present in the conduit should be covered with the plastic nuts.

Keep a bucket or a container under the sink disposal and all the other plumbing connections. The hose clamp that holds the dishwasher needs to be unfastened. For that remove the screws that hold the clamp. Also, pull out the dishwasher hose from the disposal.

Decouple the disposal from the discharge pipe as well as the pipe that connects it to the house drain. Make use of channel lock pliers to loosen the pipe connection.

Once all the fittings connected to the disposal are released, detach the disposal and the sink. For that you need to pry the snap ring on which the disposal is mounted. Once the ring is taken off, start twisting the disposal in opposite direction. Take out the disposal and clear all the debris and food residues thoroughly.

The mounting that was holding the disposal needs to be detached. For that, just unscrew the screws that are used to fix the mounting. Once the mounting is out, take out the washers also. At last, clean the plumber’s putty from the sink flange.
